What is this?
WAWA is offering regular open-turning sessions (twice a month).
What is open turning, you might ask? It's just that. You can bring any project you would like to work on. You can arrange to meet with a mentor or other experienced turner to meet you there to help with a certain skill that you wish to develop. You can come just to hang out and shoot the breeze with other woodturners who show up and share pictures of your work (or better yet bring something to show off). We have 13 midi-lathes with basic tools, chucks, etc. for use. Want to make a pen? You can do that at the Harbor shop. Want to turn a bowl? You can do that too (up to a maximum of 12") and pretty much anything in between.
We have discussed that one great possibility for the open-turning sessions is that turners can use the open-turning sessions to either practice what was taught in the monthly clinic (or even in a workshop) with others who also took the clinic. That way the turners can help each other work through the project together.
The intent is not to have instructors present at the open turning sessions. With some prior planning assistance would be available through a mentor and of course Peer-to-peer assistance should be available from other turners who are present.
These sessions will be free to members, but you will need to supply your own materials. No registration is required, but we encourage registration through this website to ensure adequate space for everyone and so we know who is coming. If registered, you can see who else is planning to attend.
